ALMOST HUMANS

“The least you can ask of a sculpture is that it stays still.”
Salvador Dalì

When I do portrait photography, the first thing I do is observe the subject, study their expressions and angles. To do this, I have to move around them, and I do the same with a statue! The beauty is that the statue stays still! But the expression on a human subject’s face that I capture with that shot will be unique and unrepeatable, while a statue’s expression is always the same, one that countless people have already photographed! So why photograph statues? Because each one has a soul trapped in the stone, and it’s a true challenge to bring it out!
